How does semi-final birth of Vijendra Kumar assures a medal(atleast a bronze)? There are 4 people in semis and 3 medals, so can you explain pls?

In Boxing, the Semi-final losers don't fight again for the Bronze. Both the Semi-final losers would get a Bronze each.

In the Olympics, contact sports events have two bronze medals given away to both semi-final losers. Hence India having qualified to the semis is assured of a bronze medal atleast. Same would ahve been the case if Akhil, Jitender and also Saina had won their last matches. Sadly we have to be content with one for now. But why Bronze when we have the gold beckoning us.

There are 2 bronze awarded in boxing for the two losing semi-finalists. So, once Vijendra Kumar made it to semi-finals, India was sure to earn a medal.
