Certain foods including tomatoes, citrus fruits, garlic, onions, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, caffeinated products, and peppermint act as triggers. Dishes high in fats and oils often lead to heartburn, as do certain medications. Obesity, pregnancy, emotional turmoil, tension, stress & smoking can cause heartburn.
