The last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, died in Rangoon. He had been deported to Burma by the British and he died in exile on November 7, 1862. He was buried near the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, and the site later became known as Bahadur Shah Zafar Dargah
