India was one of the richest countries till the time of British in the early 17th Century. Christopher Columbus was attracted by India's wealth and was looking for route to India when he discovered America by mistake. Any comment?

I differ with you dear Nicole when u say India was a rich country coz, when u say India, u r referring to a nation & when u refer to a nation, u automatically mean its entire population ( or GDP ).
Well the Indian rulers ( prior & after the invasion / occupation by foreign forces ), were filthy rich & lived a lavish life. They were the ones who borned & lived with a silver spoon in their mouth. The Rajas, Maharajas, the Badshahs, the Nawabs, the Nizams & their Vazirs, Diwans, together with royal families & a few upper caste class literally had their food served in gold plates & drinks filled in precisious glasses. Their thrones were embedded with assortment of jewels & their palaces had anything & everything under the sun. No Indian ruler ever gave it a thought for modern developement & we had to wait for the British rule for Railways, P&T, Schools, Collages etc.
Yes, the British took away jewels & diamonds from this land to their country but, in turn, they gave back above ame ...more
