Simply ask the person to translate the same in his//her mother tongue. We dont have to look for any tricks and the person would readily oblige ..!!

It happened once when I was travelling in a Delhi bus many years ago. Two Sardarjis were talking in English. Suddenly the driver applied sudden-breaks. everybody got a nasty jolt. Both the Sardars blurted out, "Eidee paihn noo..." (to his sister ... ).

Birbal Did This . When the Person was asleep , Birbal Sprinkle water on His Back , and the First few words That person utter was His Mother Tongue .It was very difficult to predict the actual mother tongue of that Person as He was very Fluent in at Least for or five Languages .
A number Test may be carried out , in which number names for Twenty one two Three and so on may be written and Tell the person to read out the Numbers , for example twenty Two , there are two dialects in which it is Either Read as "Baawis" or " Baaeeyees" .If the person read out the first word then He/she is from central India andif the second word is spell out then He/she must be from North India .
