The battle of Oscar started with his birth. He was born with no fibula bones in his legs, and therefore was forced to be amputated when he was only 11 months old. He tells that his family had been very normal to him though that he didnt even think that he had a disability, he just thought that he had different shoes : ) Even with no legs (or with different shoes) he didnt give up on doing sports. He never thought he was an academic even when he was young. In high school, he used to play rugby and one day he was tackled badly that he got injured from his knee. It was actually this injury that led him to become an athlete that would later on break the world record 49 times.

A man with no lower legs competed in the Olympic 400m. Not only that, he qualified for the semi-finals, running 45.44sec.
Pistorius, known as the Blade Runner for his carbon-fibre prosthetic legs that are fitted below the knee, is a global star these days. The 25-year-old, whose deformed legs were amputated when he was a baby, has been competing with able-bodied athletes for more than six years. He has been at world championships and is a Paralympian.
