I am stationed in Vijaywada (AP) and my answer is based on the market conditions here. But the position elsewhere will also not be much different.As prices of vegetables soar, it is onions that specifically bring tears to the eyes of homemakers. Though no meal is complete without onion for majority of the families, housewives are forced to delete it from the list of vegetables they like to purchase.
The price of onion began to rise in AP in the retail market in the recent past and is not showing any sign of coming down. The prices are hovering around Rs. 18 to Rs. 22 in retail market
.The prices have actually gone up even more compared to what they were in the first two weeks of August. Onions, which usually come in hordes from Maharashtra, have touched Rs.18 to Rs.22 a kg, compared to Rs.12 to Rs.14 that they were sold for in the first week of August.
