Fasting is a matter of personal choice, in which we deny ourself the basic essential of our sustenance, food and in the process exhibiting our own way of paying obeisance to God and taking that opportunity to come closer to Him by spending more time in His presence.

This has a practical side also to it. Ordinarily, a lot of time is spend by the members of the family, more so the womenfolk, in the never ending preparation of food from one meal to another, which leaves out very little time for them to sit without worries and be in the presence of God. On a day, when the household fasts, that routine activity comes to a grinding halt and each one has their time to pray or just be in the presence of God by whatever way each individual chooses.

I don't think, it is in any way punishing God. It is the other way around. We are telling God that, we can forego our own basic comforts for His sake and in doing that we feel happy in our own way.

And unrelated to the Qn. atleast a day in f ...more
