The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad was established in 1961 as an autonomous body in partnership with the Government of India and Government of Gujarat. IIM-A's aim is to help India and other developing countries enrich their managerial techniques both in the private and public sectors. Also the mission of the Institute is to make excellent learning facilities available to the competent students for pursuing a career in management.
The faculty of IIM-A plays an important role in directing the various academic and non-academic activities of the Institute. The Programmes are designed to inculcate leadership, innovation, team work and global focus into the students. The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad has collaborations with other institutions in India and abroad.

Iim is an autonomous body funded by the government. however, it autonomy is under tremendous pressure because of some queer policies which has political connotations floated by the hrd minister shri arjun singh.
