It appears cricket is killing other sports in India. Why this peculiar situation in India? In no other country in the world one sport dominate to such an extent to decimate other sports. Give your views.
Cricket is where there is money and where there is instant fame, which is what many are looking for. Look at the state of affairs of our national game Hockey, where the players don't even get paid apart from the abysmal conditions to which they are put up at many training centres without the basic facilities of good living conditions. When people get to read such things, who would want to venture out to such sports. The talent has to come at a young age and when youngsters have no propensity to take up sports or games like Athletics or hockey or football, where are we going to find good players who can win matches and get to have media publicity. As long as we don't win, they don't get any publicity and will continue to get neglected. They don't even get sponsors, unlike say in Europe or U.S where hockey or basketball or soccer or football or baseball players are stars in the own capacity and get huge appearance money, big contracts and millions in sponsorships.

Yeserday,I was discussing the matter with the sports secrtary of my state in the ongoing youth festival venue. It was accepted that lack of sponsorship to other sports due to lackk of viewership is the most important reason for the current phenomenon.Besides, the concerned state Govt. s n the district authorities r not encouraging any sports at all. Those who r playing cricket or any other game r doing so on their own initiatives. As cricket is popular n gives enough money most of our boys ,on their own r playing cricket. So,if the Govt. encourages ,foot ball, hokey, basket ball, volley ball etc.our boys n girls can show interest for them.
