Nehru, definitely may have been an active freedom fighter. However, his contribution to our country\'s economic and political development remains debatable. He was a dreamer and his dreams often turned into nightmares for the masses as is the case with his taking the Kashmir dispute to the U.N. or his blind faith in the goodness of the Chinese. He should have strengthened the frontiers of our country first and foremost and also joined hands with the Western world in condemning Chinese aggression against the innocent Tibetans. He did nothing of the sort. He lavished enormous praise on the Turkish reformer and dictator, Mustafa Kemal Pasha in his autobiography, yet when the time came for him to do the same in India, instead of emulating the great man, he chose to cater to the baser instincts of those around him. He can be said to have encouraged psycophancy, and the durbari culture that we see shamelessly practised today.
