Yes and why not! We have many examples around us which bear testimony to this fact. Look at the Ambanis. Today they are huge but their father, Dhirubhai Ambani, started off very small. He used to sell "pakoras" to pilgrims in Mount Girnar over the weekends and then started to climb the rungs till he finally reached the top. There are many more examples of this rags-to-riches story. It all boils down to the determination of the person... this makes all the difference and not in which house you are born.

Yes, they can do it through hard work , dedication for eg. Reliance Group, Dhirubhai Ambhani with humble begining, he rose to tthe top, Nirma soap owner also began from humble begining and now one of the few big Industrialist we have. if you want to ask there is one great leader who rese humbly and became the Prime Minister of India, our own Lal Bahadur Shastri and also Abraham Lincoln who is regarded as one of the Best President of America ever produced, have began his life in humble manner and rose to became a President of America. these are some examples dear.

Put in hard and intelligent work, enjoy what you do, be open to listen and learn and share your knowledge, maintain cheerful positive attitude, be smiling and fall in love with yourself first. Then, anybody can hope to become big/great/famous etc.
