I think you mean emotional support dog. A therapy dog is trained, tested, registered and insured to visit hospitals and nursing homes with his owner to cheer up the patients there. An emotional support dog is a pet belonging to a person with a disability, usually a mental illness based disability. Federal laws protect the rights of people with disabilities to keep an emotional support animal in spite of "no pets" rules in most cases, and to fly with their emotional support animals on commercial aircraft.
