I was an officer in the National Institute of Oceanogaphy, Goa. We have a regional centre in Kochi. Hence, I used to visit Kochi sometimes to conduct interviews and other official work. Beautiful place. Our centre is near Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary - opposite is Bolgati island - now a bridge has come up there linking the island to mainland Kochi. Saw Chinese fishing nets and had fresh fish too. Nearby is Portuguese church. Then, went to spices market and also to a shop where they make fresh banana chips, halwa, tapioca chips, jackfruit chips etc.
Wonderful place. I found it just like Goa except their 'lungi' dress and language. Food is same as in Goa. No space is wasted. Every piece of land, something is grown e.g. drumstick trees, haldi plants, tapioca, banana trees, areca nut trees, coconut trees and so on.
