The Left too, assuming it finds it possible to lay aside its fundamental objections (subservience to the US, infringement of India's sovereignty) to the main nuclear deal, would find little in the contents of the agreement to which it can take serious exception.

The first-ever summit between India and African countries begins in New Delhi today. The 54-member African bloc is the largest group in the United Nations and India is looking forward to get its support to strengthen its bid for a UNSC seat. Also, India looks for new sources of energy in Africa.

The two-day summit will be attended by 14 African leaders including Thabo Mbeki of South Africa and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda. India is concerned over the growing presence of China in African market and expects to make strong in-roads into it through this summit.
