Anna University was started as the transformation of Guindy Engineering College, Guindy, Madras , the oldest (above 200 yrs) College in India. G.E.C. was world famous and its products occupied very high positions in India and abroad in Engineering education, administration, Technology and research. When it stared about 25 yrs ago as a university it was good, maintaining position and standard. Now after division into 3 or 4 units, concentrating more on Distance education, again unifying into one etc, it\'s almost like any other university in India. No doubt,better than many of the deemed universities mushroomed in South India, still. It cannot compare with IITS or BITS however.
