Al-Ghafooru
THE ALL-FORGIVING
Allah forgives the sins of those who sincerely ask forgiveness.
Although Allah is All-Forgiving we should not live sinful lives
but rather be ashamed of our sins and avoid repeating them.
When forgiven He can make us forget those sins.
Nothing can stop His blessings to flow freely when we are worthy.

The most Forgiving. This name occurs in the Quran more than seventy times. There are other names from the same root. The meaning of the ghafar is to cover, to hide and from it comes the meaning to excuse, to pardon, to remit and to forgive. Allah the Almighty does all these things. In the Quran, it is mentioned that Allah does not forgive shirk (without repentance) but He may forgive every other sin for whomsoever He wills.

Of Allahs greatest names is Al-Ghafuwr . Its one of the most common names mentioned in the Quran (NINETY ONE times). The name itself is on the pattern that denotes a very powerful doer of an action.
Linguistic Meaning: The root of Al-Ghaffuwr and Al-Ghaffar is the verb is ghafara , which does NOT mean to forgive; rather, it means to shield and protect and cover. Like a helmet, which, in Arabic, is called a mighfaar.
Islamic Meaning: Islamically, Allah, Al-Ghaffuwr is the one who shields and protects YOU form the consequences of your own actions. One of the connotations is, you shield and cover something based upon knowledge. So when Allah does maghfirah, hes covering your sins, being fully aware of what they are. So we say hes the one who FORGIVES, regardless of how large the sin his. Thats what Al-Ghaffuwr isthe one who does the concept of ghafara to a higher level. Even if its a large quantitya HUGE sinAl-Ghafuwr will cover it up. Its a QUALITY of covering.
