Girish Karnad is no fool. He knows what drama means. He may have some substance in criticising Tagore. Rabindranath Tagore was given the Nobel for his Geetanjali because of some reasons.. That does not mean he wrote everything Top Class. On the examination scale of drama, he may not be that good. If karnad says, one should think.

Most of the Indians we revere and put on pedestals and worship are actually not read or understood by most of us. We worship them but have no knowledge what they stood for.
Hence we are a people who appreciate a person to the skies not on the basis of the quality of his/her work, but his/her caste/religion/language etc. Girish Karnad must have said this evaluating the works of Rabindra Nath Tagore deeply. We need not quickly castigate Girish Karnad as guilty of Blasphemy! What he said needs to be debated and understood. Tagore need not be equated with some sort of god (like Tendulkar), who cannot do no wrong.
