Some of the nastier ones are herpes both type 1 & 2 as well as shingles, there are no cures for these viral infections,you will have them in your body the rest of your life, also Lupus, so tell whoever told you there not contagious, so they don't go around being misinformed & spread the virus.

Yes, all viruses that use human as their host are contangious. That is how there survive and multiple. If not, they probably aready extinct. They just differ in their route of transmission. Example, cold virus is spread by airborne droplets.
Some viruses are species specific. E.g. Species specific virus that infect horses does not infect human.
However, sometimes virus may undergo mutation and acquire the ability to infect human. That is why we are so afraid of bird flu, which seems to be acquiring this ability.
