Q.

From an ENTERTAINMENT point of view, during the height of emergency period, if u threw a mad rave party, nothing happened to you. Nowadays if you do the same, u risk getting raided left, right and center.

Why was semi SOcialist India more lax on entertainment, even during the height of emergency period?

It was the transition era even in 70s when rave party was introduced... and now it is raided since it has experienced the crime that breed in Rave party. Drugs have destroyed the society and it is a big challenge.

Its not the question of 'Socialist India being more relaxed.' The thing is that as time goes by, we are becoming more and more 'Enlightened'. In emergency days we were not aware of such 'immoral' things like rave parties. Today we know. Through the 'enlightenment' gained by looking farther back in time and bringing 'our beloved traditions' to the fore. Hence raids on rave parties, police slapping young couples found sitting close to each other on a bench in the local park or in a juice bar.
Even the local goons have styled themselves as 'saviours of Indian Culture' and blacken faces of lovers they search out on beaches and gardens, beat up women who go to pubs etc.
We are improving.

At that time ,may be people were not that much affected by those parties as they were only few and Only Hi-fi people were involved in such parties. But now every major city host such parties often .
now-a-days only drugs and S(-x is the main theme of such parties and whenever they are raided by police ,many are tested positive for banned drugs and other antisocial activities take place. Many drugs like cocaine& charas are regularly supplied to clients who take part in such parties.
