The Second Battle of Panipat was fought between Hemu and Akbar on November 5th, 1556. Hemu was the military chief of the Afghan king Muhammad Adil Shah who was determined to oust the Mughals from India. Akbar who ascended the throne at a young age of 13 due to the accidental death of his father Humayun led the Mughal force to the war. The Second Battle of Panipat was manned by Akbars uncle and guardian Bairam Khan.
Hemus 1500 strong army including elephants initially uprooted Mughal forces. Hemu was on the verge of victory when Bairam Khan thought of a strategy. He asked one of his soldiers to move stealthily towards Hemu and hit him with an arrow. The arrow stuck Hemu in the eye and he fell down unconscious. He was dragged down towards the Mughal cantonment. There was an argument between Bairam Khan and Akbar wherein the former asked the young king to slit Hemus throat.
