Let me quote here one verses of Quran : WE appointed you viceroys in the earth after them, that We might see how ye behave. (Ref : The noble Quran, Chapter 10, Verse 14 ).

God's mercy is infinite. But His ways of delivering mercy are mysterious. If it is acceptable for you to hear from the traditional Indian religious history,I can quote an example. Ravan had become an evil tyrant because of his vast power. God took a human form as Ram and killed Ravan. Because Ravan was killed by Divine wepons, he became pure and was granted salvation. Thus God showed mercy even on an evil person through punishment

When one finds the same God in others too, then he becomes merciful to all including himself.
