In the current hullabaloo about the lok pal bill and the Anna agitation, one question has frequently been raised, both by protagonists of the Congress and the government and by constitutionalists and legal experts: however laudable the goals of Anna and his supporters, arent the methods adopted by them illegitimate? Doesnt a fast unto death amount to blackmail of the legislature? Isnt it an attempt by the unelected to usurp the functions of Parliament and thereby to undermine the foundations of democracy?-Comment
First of all Anna is using only a very peaceful method. He is not using violence or putting any other pressure on the government.Secondly why is the govt. nowing to his fasting? He is also just like any ordinary citizen. So why is teh govt.taking him so seriously and then also crying his actions as blackmail.Thirdly if the government is so much against corruption then whjy did they not amke any stringent laws to curb corruption? Then there would nt have been any need of Anna's fasting.Even if the govt.was not able to amke the laws then when Anna had given a draft of the lokpal bill , why did the govt. not accept it immediately. The message is looud and clear. The govt. does not want to stop corruption and that is why it is calling the peaceful protest of Anna as Blackmail.

There are many types of Democracy. Anna is following Social-Democracy. Govt is talking about legalities, whereas all laws are for the people. If a govt takes the support of laws, which are enacted by the people themselves (through their representatives) and try to supress a mass movement through those laws, don't you think this is also a sort of blackmailing by using the Law as a shield?
Intention of AnnaHazare: To see that a Strong Janlokpal is passed, which was never passed by any govt in the past 42 years.
Keeping in view these 42 years and all subsequent govts' unwillingness to pass it, Anna Hazare is resorting to anshan.
Govt's intention: To try and NOT pass the strong Jan Lokpal bill. They have been doing this for 42 years,.To repeat the 42 years inaction on this bill, govt is resorting to existing laws and calling the movement as blackmail.
Anshan is a peaceful weapon and has been used in the past and will be used in future too.

All the questions raised here are constitutionally and so legally right. But when the people who were legitimately elected to form government and serve the State go in a wrong way I think there must be some mechanism to correct it, and in that sense the people in power must not take the corrective measures suggested/demanded by some learned people in the interest of the State. They must view the suggestion positively and take/consider in right spirit instead of calling it illegitimate. If asking for justice is wrong and illegitimate in a democracy which is right then?
