I always feel, hockey is much more physically threatening game than cricket. There is practically not much difference between a hockey ball and a cricket ball in terms of weight, size and hardness. The big difference is in seam. The batsmen in cricket wait for the ball to be delivered and then treat it. But in hockey, nobody knows when the ball will be hit for a log range or be scooped. The threat of being hit and get hurt in hockey is much higher than in cricket. Hockey is physically a more demanding game. The speed and stamina and strength required for good hockey player is way above cricket. In fact during Bradman's time cricket was not known for the athleticism.

Now, coming back to your main question of comparison, between Bradman and Dhyanchand , I will say, there should be no comparison, because they played different games. Dhyanchand can be compared to Gurbux Singh or an Inaam ur Rehaman or a B.P Ganesh and Bradman should be compared to Wally Hammond, Garry Sobers, Len Hut ...more

I fancy Sir Don Bradman as he played when he was poor kid with a golf stick to hit the ball against the wall so it bounces back so he could hit it again . It was this skill in hitting the ball with a thin round golf stick that had made him to be what he was . He would have a been king of any game with a bat and a ball let alone hockey with those skills .Other person who would have been on top in any game was Sir Garfield Sobers .

The Amsterdam Games became the first stage, for the wizardry of Dhyan Chand. The wizardry was not only meant for the spectators, but also for the opponents, for during several moments, the opponents were like spectators, with sticks and jerseys, as they could only watch Dhyan Chand`s magic and could do nothing about it. He was referred as "The Hockey Wizard" after a sensational feat in the final of the Punjab Indian Infantry tournament in the town of Jhelum. Dhyan Chand then scored three goals in the last four minutes for his side to snatch a dramatic victory.

I think the competition would be between Sachin with his bat or Dhyan chan with stick. Even in this I would think Dhyan Chand was pretty cool.. no question when it comes to cricket world Sachin is God, not Don Bradman.
