D.K.Patatmmal affectionately called D.K.P. is a doyen of Carnatic Music. She formed the trinity with M.S. , M.L.V. and her passing away is the an end of tinity as M.L.V. , M.S. passed away before her. She is an exponoent of carnatic music and she learned music from her father. She passed away at the ripe age of 90 through a prolonged illness. She was born in the year 28th March, 1919 to an orthodox brahmin family in Tanjavore. During a span of 65 years she sang various songs. She is popular in singing Bharatiyar Songs . In Naam iruvar she sangs all Bharathiar songs danced by Kumari Kamala. Her songs includes En Palli kondirayya, Theeratha vilayattu Pillai, Eppadi Padinaro is very famous and even now they can be heard. Her grand daughter Nitayshree Mahadevan is herself is a famous musician. Her song includes famous Papanasam Sivan songs also. It is a great pity a great era ended with a demise of D.K.P. That was a historic occasion and happened in the 'sixties! She was a woman
of great warmth and used to speak in a measured,!! The era of high classicism
among female singers is over with Pattammal's death !1
