Without getting into the merits of the case, I would say that whenever an honest attempt by an honest officer is made to preserve the rule of law against the mighty all hell breaks to condemn the duty bound custodian of law . Such condemnation is more volatile when the issues involved concern any religious groups, political party, etc. etc. as the accused caught/booked in this manner has direct bearing on the outfit. I remember a case of an honest officer of NIFT (Ministry of Textiles) who rightfully raised his voice against illegal, corrupt and criminal acts of one lady IAS officer from Gujarat Gauri Kumar; This officer was booked in five departmental inquiries, a criminal case for taking HRA and finally got him terminated from service.
