Affluence in Punjab and the neighbouring states has led to an increase in the cases of breast cancer among women in the region as compared to other diseases related to changing lifestyle. At the same time, the cases of mouth and lung cancer, mainly caused by smoking and chewing of tobacco, are relatively lower here as compared to other states, says Dr Sewa S. Legha, Director, Melanoma Detection and Treatment Centre at St. Lukes Episcopal Hospital, Texas, USA.
He was in the city yesterday to mobilise the regions doctors to participate in ASCO PanAsia Cancer Conference to be held from February 24 to 26 in New Delhi.
