Here's the skinny: Assume Roger wins every final he plays for the rest of the year. Roger is entering 5 more tournaments in 2008: Stockholm, Madrid, Basel, Paris, and the Masters Cup
Rafa is entering 3 more tournaments in 2008: Madrid, Paris, and the Masters Cup

Roger currently has 5930 ranking points (with 1325 to defend the rest of the year)
Rafa currently has 7000 ranking points (with 700 to defend the rest of the year)

If Roger wins every tournament for the rest of '08, he will have a net gain of 800 points, finishing the year with 6730 points.

I'll lay out three scenarios. 1) Best-Best case and 2) Worst-Best Case and 3) Break-Even

1) The Best-Best case is that Roger wins every tournament and Rafa loses every first round. If this happens Rafa will have a net loss of 700 ending the year at 6300. Roger's 6730 will leave him the year-end #1 by 430 points.

2) The Best-Worst Case is the Roger Wins every tournament and Rafa reaches every final. If this happens, Rafa ...more
