Yes, if it is really needed for people to gather and worship. But never, with objective as a showpiece.

Sai Ram. Yes and no. No for those spiritually advanced enough and yes for others who love rituals. In a democracy, both have their rights and there is no need of discussing and wasting energies on such matters.

NOOOOO!

We need more:

1. Soup kitchens- so people don't die of hunger.
2. Hospitals- so people don't die of something simple like diarrhea.
3. Free housing- so people can sleep w/a roof over their heads
4. Schools- so people think it was bad hygene which took a toll on their daughter's death and not the pissed off evil spirit of Ghauri.

We have enough places of worship in this country. It's high time we secularize. In Muslim community u have ppl who spend CRORES for construction of a Mosque but then snuff beggars & poor people who seek their alms for expenses every Friday. In Hinduism we have people pouring LITERS and LITERS of milk on a Temple statue when the infant kids of the devotees themselves are wailing their livers out due to malnutrition. In Buddhism (though not in India) in pre PLA liberated Tibet, u had Lamas spend HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE sums on ORNATE places of worship whereas the common man had to sleep w/ sheep & yaks. ...more

Every nook and corner of the nation, there is a place for worship. Even we are unable to maintain them, rather the dogs and other animals desecrate these holy places. For instance, yoyu be once i Mathura. You see for yourslves 100s of temples in damn shatters with the animals waste and unbearable stench, you rather feel like fleeing the area. When you are not able to take care of what you have, what is fun in going for more!!!!!!!

If I ask you a question, why you need a permanant residence ? what reply will you give. any how it is faith dear. with faith only everything happens and life goes on. As far as i am concerned , yes, it should be there , so that one can pray peacefully in those place. You may spiritual to chore, or you can say i can pray at home only. but it may be difficult to pray at home. hence, the elders thought about it and built all these places of worship so that we can go once a while and pray for our satisfaction. For satisfaction we built permanant structure of place of worship. My mother use to say, as it is the grand old lady of Tamil Literature's proverb " Kovil illa uril kudiyerukavendam " means " don' t stay where there is a temple " means place of worship is really needed so that one can live happily. the last but not the least is how you take it that also counts. If you want a permanant structure, then it is ok otherwise also it is ok, no one will question you about ...more

We need them. Faith gives lot of comfort that some one is there to take care. For beginers idol worship is necessary as it is the same case how children learn using languages by cursory writing in big letters. Once god is is realised and person worshipping becomes mature he can pray from wherever he is.
