Q.

Due to the strict KYC norms of RBI I am not able to open account in banks. I live in Mumbai and dont have a ration card currently. In Mumbai ration card is required as address proof, whereas in some other states it has been banned as address proof. I do not have ration card in Mumbai and hence no address proof, how can I get an account opened without Ration card.

Ration Card is not the only address proof that is required by a Bank to open an account. There are other alternate documents that are acceptable for the purpose. Some such documents are Electricity Bill, Land Line Telephone Bill in your name, or if you own your own house, Property Docuements/ or if you are having a leased accommodation, registered leased deeds etc., are also sometime taken as address proof.

You need to visit the Bank and discuss this with the Branch Manager. You may get a way out of this.
