Q.
During the British Rule in India, educated young men from learned and decent families used to take up the profession of policeman. There was a social status even for exams like ICS, since very few people had their BA degree completed at that time. Now, police departments are full of uneducated, lower-middle class and unsocial youths of infamous family background- they take up such profession as they have no other options to choose. Would that change the character of modern-day police force?

Having a minimum education criteria for the police force would go a long way in cleaning up the mess. However it would remove the rot altogether. Whats needed is a separation of the police and the polity and urgent police reforms
