One doesnt require any licenses to start a business, however, you may need to apply for a few registrations such as VAT, Service Tax, Small Scale Industrial reg, these are statutory compliance requirements depending on the nature of business you have. However, there may be some special areas where you may require a license for e.g. manufacturing of medicines or liquor or tobacco etc where there is a direct effect on the health of citizens is concerned.
