Well it is fact of life that US is far far ahead from our country in terms of technology,
No other country fosters so much of innovation as US does , Not only USA has its own great scintific talent pool but they welcome talent from all over the world.

This progress in US is not a one day affair , At the time when Shahjan emptyed his coffers by building Taj Mahal in USA Harverd University was founded as small college. Tajmaha and such wasteful expenditurel made India what it is today and Harvard made USA what it is today.

Universities like Harvard , Yale , Princeton , MIT , Caltech and Stanford has made USA what it is. On the other hand our good institutes are extremely narrow focused like IIT or IIM and other broad based universities are den of political activities and corruption and not sear of education.

Not only we Indians, almost every country including those of developed world takes assistance from US. Of course, countries such as Israel, Japan etc are better in some aspects but great technological and scientific minds have their training in US. USA spends a lot of resources and wherewithal in fundamental research. We certainly need their help. Improvisation is both time saving, effort saving and cost effective too. You know about our governments and their governance. But pity is that being an agrarian nation, we have huge waste lands and starved of water. The technology is available with Israel and US. We won't do anything there. How many know about Dr. Swaminathan who has done pioneering works in Rice?

Actually, I will beg to differ from most answers. I do not think India lacks anything, not technology, not the brains and not the innovations. And all nations take help from each other. Did you know that the US has billions and trillions of dollars debt from China? Why? because china is more rich? no, but just coz all nations borrow from one another and that how the economy works. Thats how the dollar floats.

It has also rightly been said that Innovation is the backbone of all economies. Most of the innovations happening around the world are by Indians. It is in India that this knowledge treasure was not being explored. But recently, there has been a surge in acknowledging and rewarding Indian Innovations.

I recently attended this function called Marico Innovation Foundation's Innovation for India awards. My friend was one of the finalist with his startup so I accompanied him. These awards were held to recognize 7 leading innovations from 379 entries. And therewere industry ...more

Yes to some extent we have lobbies that also spoils the scene. we have many green technologists proven technologies but our Governments are getting kickbacks so they do not encourage our own people this is also a part of failure.
I give one example--long back we need brake pads for MIG fighters we purchased from Russia
we run short of these pads so our Airforce Chief asked Indira Gandhi to request Prez Breznev for brake pads then PM Indira said try to make here then formally requseted to Indian Institute of science
of Bangalore they developed these brake pads within a month tested fixed on Mig fighter proved very effiicient then big story Russia started to place orders for indian brakepads for their Airforce! you got it

Yes in every respect. The Americans offer better facilities to work, research and better pay. I am constantly reading about the conditions of work and the rotten salaries. Have you been to the Kalina Campus in Mumbai? If not, then go there. It is for the year 2010 one of the most rotten I have ever come across. No proper benches, badly illuminated class rooms, no natural light. Forget the toilets. go out into the natural area. It is not surprising that today Mumbai 'varsity is considered one of the rotten universities in the world. After all we are ruled by ninkumpoops, who want their institutions to be sought after. After all ill-gotten money has to be white washed. I could write much more.

Certainly we are ages behind them .They work and spend money on Research and Development , and we are far behind them.Their astronauts put their foot on moon in 1969 and we still can not accomplish this feat .They have expert groups like CAST .
An overview of CAST is given below :
The Commercial Aviation Safety Team was

founded in 1998 with a goal to reduce the

commercial aviation fatality rate in the

United States by 80 percent by 2007. By 2007

CAST was able to report that by implementing

the most promising safety enhancements, the

fatality rate of commercial air travel in the

United States was reduced by 83 percent.

Today CAST continues to apply its integrated,

data-driven strategy to reduce commercial

aviation fatality risk in the United States

and promote new government and industry safety

initiatives throughout the world.

Vision

Key aviation stakeholders acting

cooperatively to lead the world-wide aviation
