I think Sania is an over-publicized player of less talent compared to Leandre and Mahesh. At present. Leandre is the 5th ranked Doubles Player of the world. with 6335 points in 20 tournaments. . Mahesh Bhupathi is 15th ranked with 4330 points in 24 tournaments. Sania Mirza is at her her career-best seventh position in the latest WTA doubles rankings. So, a plain reading of the stats would suggest, a Leander Sania combination is the best that India may offer in the Olympics.

No. Paes Sania combine has never won an international event. Whereas, Bhupathi Sania combine has won a grand slam. They won the Australian Open once. Buhpathi Sania would have been a better choice and would have had a better chance of winning a Gold in Olympics.
