When Banks were nationalised, they were called nationalised banks or public sector banks. In fact these banks were under the control of Govt. With the implementation of global standards requirements, many new measures were introduced. Slowly govt. reduced its stake and participation of public took place in a limited manner. Now in many banks the Govt.'s stake is 51 while the rest is with the public/private. When once Govt.'s stake goes down from 51 to 49 or less, then it can no more be public sector with no govt. stake. If one has to go with the times and changes that are taking place around globally, we have no option but to privatise banking industry, which has already taken place 49%. Central Bank which did not go to public has also stepped in few months back. Earlier the better
