Can India ever create memorable characters like Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter and James Bond?

I agree with Uni. But talking about characters in stories and movies we have Gabbar Singh, Mogambo, Chacha Chowdary, Suppandi, etc. There are some real (realistic) characters such as those in our epics - Ramayan and Mahabarath (there are plenty in there), and other stories say Akbar-Birbal fables, Tenali Raman tales, etc.
Dont just quote some nice names from the west and compare it with something here because you are comparing apples to oranges. If you ask a villager about Gabbar Singh - he will know a great deal nad will even start talking about Sholay scenes, but if you ask him about Sherlock Holmes he will not be able to figure out the name in the first place since he hasnt heard of it at all.
India created the master showman Raj Kapoor and some refer to him as Indian Charlie Chaplin, but showman would be a more appropriate title. The history and depth of characters in our history as well as epics predates - all the characters mentioned above. The characters above are just withi ...more

We already have sir now the hindi/regional novels are tanslated to english and other languages. A few of them like " Devkanta santati " and others.We have various characters from panchtantra and other epics.

Apart from the real brains and talents, India has created characters like Birbal, Tenali Ram and such similar characters which are unmatched for their wit and wisdom.
