Earlier, there wer dog shooters hired by the Municipalities and Panchayats in Goa and these dog shooters used to shoot the stary dogs and get paid as per the number of dogs they shoot. With the advent of PETA and other such organisations, the shooting of stary dogs has come to an abrupt end. The number of dog bites has considerably increased making people cough up hard earned money on rabies injections. The poor are the worst affected. Many children are being bitten by these stary dogs. The colunteers of PETA and other such organisations try to catch the stray dogs and impound them in certain areas but they have not been able to catch most of the stary dogs and the danger of people dying of rabies has increased. Stay dogs have become a real menace in our locality.

Yes stray dogs are a huge menace. Especially at nights when you are riding a two wheeler and they stalk you it is sometimes scary too. But it is more the fault of our society. We \'litter\' our environs and thus give a direct invitation to the stray dogs to venture into our locality. The Muncipality has to take this up as a serious issue and should catch these stray dogs and put them in seperate enclosures and provide food and shelter to them.
