I am very sorry to say that that Rafael's statement may sound noble but not true for likes of the. The footballers, Tennis players of high standing would not waste several months for Olympics. Some of the big names do participate in Olympics either to their greatness or to save themselves from the scathing criticism.
The athletes, swimmers, gymnasts, wrestlers etc do not get such a big platform outside Olympics. For these breed of Sportsmen what Rafael said was true. Can we expect the big names in NBA would attend Olympics?

Well because of money involved in professional tennis, tennis stars remained out of olympics for pretty long time and only few years back, it got a chance back in Olympics with some special concessions made for professional tennis players. I guess that its novelty with new inclusion makes Nadal say so.
