Percieved by both i.e. by it's presence and by it's absence,it proves of the element which makes the body alive through its presence;and in it's absence, it is called that the body is dead. That means Atma or the soul element is that crux of yours which make this body move. It's presence in my body makes it's existance valid that is why I feel as alive 'I' . It's absence seen by way of those departing, proves that the element is passed away, hence the absence of the element so proves that while alive he element was there and later it went off.No anyother thing exists which could be proved by such presence as well as absence.

Almost all religions accept that God is within all living beings , non-living beings and is all around us . Prophet Mohamed had said that God is closer than the blood vein inside the neck . A drop of the ocean of God inside us is refereed as soul or Geevathma or Geevan . Soul being part of God ,The paramatthma , remains unaffected and remains pure irrespective of the acts of humans . It is like wind that carries in it good aroma and also bad smell and yet remains unaffected .Like a snake carrying poison but unaffected by it . Surrounding soul is abstract contents like MIND , intellect . This mind collects so much of garbage in our life and dumps around the soul making it impossible for us to even be aware let alone reach our soul .Surrounding the mind is our physical body . When the Geevan , the life goes out , the body dies but not the soul as it is Divinity itself , it mingles with environment till it finds another embryo and reborn again . The good and bad deeds of the individual ...more

Its the soul residing in us The body only runs by its power and strength. Its the whole energy provider for the self that makes our being.
Some also relate Aathma as Parmathma..who never dies, but only travels from one body to other for another life, after the death of one body.

In order to understand the overall concept, we will take an analogy. In the dark, when light falls on moving fog, it creates various shapes and illusions. For illusions to exist, both fog and light is necessary. Illusions are nothing but interplay (emulsion or fusion) of reflection-of-source-of-light and moving fog.

In the above analogy, source of light is the Pure Consciousness, where as fog represents ever changing and inert matter, which is made of ever changing qualities (Gunas) i.e. light (Satava), action (Rajas) and inertia (Tammas). The overall reflection-of-source-of-light on the matter is known as Atama, which is one because there is one to one relation between the source of light and reflection-of-source-of-light. Both Pure Consciousness and matter are eternal i.e. without beginning and no end. Since Pure Consciousness and matter are eternal, Pure Consciousnesss reflection is also eternal. Also, matter is dependent upon Pure Consciousness.

Pure Satava portion of this e ...more
