Hi Muktha,You must be knowing about my favourite Lyricist Gulzarjee.I have heard ,enjoy and like old songs a lot ,but only since I started enjoying Gulzarjee's songs I started taking interest into the lyrics part.I started getting enchanted with his poetic style of using words ,the depth of emotions he used in narrating sensitive portrayal of subjects .I used to wonder the terrific way he had expressed the intensity of femenine nature and emotions. He had written great numerof songs in his account which were almost all hit.His first bollwodd song come in my favourite list ,too ie for Bandini" Mora gora rang laile ,more sham rang daide ".I had seen all the movies he made and directed.i had found special interst in his poetry collections ,too.He had reached great heights with his Godly blessed lyricism only. I had even a personal desire to meet this gentleman some day in my life ,but I dont think it would ever happnen, as I am so inspired with his poetry.

Sahir Ludhianvi, the writer who wrote songs like main pal do pal ka shayar hun (kabhie kabhie), tu hindu banega na mussalman banega insan ki aulad hai insan banega (dhul ka phul), ye ishq ishq & na to karwa ki talash hai (barsat ki rat), ye duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai (pyasa), chalo ik bar fir se ajnabi ban jaye (gumrah), sansar se bhage firte ho & man re tu kahe na dheer dhare (chitrlekha), allah tero nam ishwar tero na (hum dono). It was after Sahir's that the radio stations started telling lyricist's names with the singers and music director for the songs. He was a bachelor. My favourite - Na to karwan ki talash hai (Barsat Ki Rat).

Second choice is Sampooran Singh Kalra aka Gulzar with songs like mora gora ang laile, ghar Jaayegi (khushbu), tera bina zindagi se koi, is mod se jate hai (andhi), mera kuch saaman, khali hath sham ayi hai (ijazat), maine tere liye hi, na jiya jaye na and maut tu ek kavita hai (anand). My favourite - Koi hota jisko apna from Mere Apne.

Songs written by Saahir and Shailendra from the late fifties, sixties and early seventies have always impressed me. And the one most valid reason I can give for my liking is the rationality and the realism their creation had. I mean, they did not tried to create a hyped world full of goody-goody stuffs in their imaginations. Their creations were plain and simple and had lot to do with the miseries and pains, a person faces in his day to day ordinary life. Maybe, it was the era of socialism in India but even today, their songs are relevant and they will always remain so!

Here are few of my favorite songs by these masters:-

Saahir:-
1. Naa toh kaarwaan ki talaash hai - Barsaat Ki Raat
2. Teri duniya mein jeene se to behtar hai ki mar jaayein - House No. 44
3. Main Zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya - Hum Dono
4. Almost all the songs of Pyasa and Humraaz.
5. Pyaar par bas to nahi hai mera - Sone Ki Chidiya ...more

There are so many of them but Sahir Ludhianvi's name just comes to my mind.He wrote very practical and useful songs. I can just remember his song ' Aurat ne janam diya mard ko, mardon ne usey bazaar diya." This one song really hits very hard on the listeners and reminds them to maintain their good character.
