Why is Nikon considered better than Canon?

A Nikon and a Canon are equivalent in quality. The Nikon is significantly more costly than the Canon. Most Nikon buyers would disagree but do some research before you buy.
I tried both Nikon and Canon DSLR and chose Nikon - thought the images were slightly better on the Nikon and the Nikon felt slightly more "familiar".

Who said this ? Nikon is not better then Canon both are comptetors and canon sells better.
If you are in to DSLRs then you are buying a while system and lens costs more then body.
Canon has wider range of lenses then Nikon.
Both camps have fanboys and they can go in endless internet wars on what is better.
MTW if you like Pentax Kx is best entry level DSLR followed by Canon 550D / 500D.
