Indian politicians like Sharad Pawar (the current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India) get involved in the administration of sports because sports is a field which generates a lot of revenue. It is not only politicians, but even film personalities like Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta and industrialists like Mukesh Ambani and Dr. Vijay Mallya who have invested crores of rupees to own the city franchises participating in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL). Sports administration is not an illegal activity. As fas as sportspersons getting involved in politics are concerned, it would be incorrect to state that sportspersons in India are apolitical. They are as much as part of the murky politics of the sporting arena as the politicians themselves.

Politicians put their leg in any field which gives them chance to earn money. As today's sports governing generates a lotr of revenue, it is obvious Politicians wants to play a role in the sports field also.
