Naxalism is primarily caused by the split in the communist party of india (marxist) . charu majumdar and kanu sanyal led a violent uprising in 1967, trying to develop a revolutionary opposition to the cpi(m) leader ship.majumdar greatly admired mao tse tung and advocated that the indian farmers and lower class overthrow the government and upper class whom he called are the reasons of their plight. and as such people who are in the lower economic platform and are finding it very hard to earn a living and those farmers who are pitilessly exploited by their landlords are attracted by this movement and are very powerful in states where such economical imbalance present. at present the maoist naxalbaris have a well trained army of its own and a sizable support base from the people from the neglected areas.
