Flattery is excessive and insincere praise. On the other hand, a compliment is a remark made by one person to another to express the former's praise, respect or esteem for the latter.

Flattery is a 'presentation of somebody or something NOT IN REAL SENSE - but always consisted of 'big words', just framed-up in an enlarged format to please the other like 'I have not seen ever a BOSS as you, Sir, you are so sympathetic, knowledgeable and pleasing in all sense and, Sir, what a dynamic personality, you are ' (whereas he might be the most disliked and displeasing type). And this is termed as flattery to please the other with a view to draw some undue privilege from him. But Compliment is mostly in REAL SENSE - and at times consist of some gifts or mementos in appreciation of ones contribution for the growth of an organisation/establishment/company. Whereas flattery is to achieve some benefits from the other; compliment comes voluntarily and straight away from the other.
