Hi! I would recommend a basic well balanced meal plan rather than a "diet" for a 12 year old & lots of exercise in terms of any active sport he enjoys, 4-5 times a week.
You need to cut back on junk foods like chips, chocolates, fried foods & sweets. Here's a sample plan-
Breakfast- Cereal with skimmed milk , egg white & fruit
Mid-morning- fruit
Lunch- Roti, vegetables, dal, rice & salad
Evening Snack- Handful of nuts, Raw vegetables with a low fat dip or any snack that is not fried or sweet. Avoid snacks like french fries, burgers, bhel, samosas etc.
Dinner- Soup, Salad, Chicken or fish roasted/baked/grilled
OR Lentils, Salad, Dal & fewer roti's than eaten at lunch time.
Basically the dinner needs to be light.
Cook all food in less oil & allow the boy to have a portion of any indulgence he desires ONCE a week. ...more
