For starters do not buy Adidas ADIZERO shoes ... there are supposed to be marathon trainers and were the official sponsors for the Delhi Half Marathon 2008 I bought them and they are bad - light weight for sure - but all the fingers hurt on the foot ..though the heel of the shoes is good

All you need is intensive training and mental conditioning rather than typing a question here. When you know your goal is beyond vision, as in case of marathon, better concentrate and open your mouth and breathe. Let your hands hang down and take short steps while running. Let your feet not go high as a sprinter. Move your body in rythm.
