We , the people of Mumbai have put up the National Flag on the Taj Mahal Hotel. I think the parliament building should have flown our Flag at half - mast today in memory of those who died. Your views please.

Finesse and our politicians do not go hand in hand. They are poles apart. What you have suggested needs refined thinking and no matter who is at the helm of affairs they are all the same.

Now State mourning on the demise of former PM Mr. V.P. Singh is also going on. In that too, the national flag should be half-masted. It is unjustifiable to have the national flag flown fully in these days especially when the nation mourns.

As the frequency of terrorist attacks have increased in our country, then almost throughout the year the National Flag would be flown half-mast.

Here are the specified guidelines for flying National flag at Half mast which is enough to put all the controversies concerning it to be put to rest.
The flag of India is flown at half-staff for the death of the President, Vice-President and Prime Minister all over India. For the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of The Supreme Court of India, it is flown in Delhi and for a Union Cabinet Minister it is flown in Delhi and the state capitals. For Minister of State, it is flown only in Delhi. For a Governor, Lt. Governor and Chief Minister of a state or union territory it is flown in the concerned state.
If the intimation of the death of any dignitary is received in the afternoon, the flag shall be flown at half-staff on the following day also at the place or places indicated above, provided the funeral has not taken place before sun-rise on that day. On the day of the funeral of a dignitary mentioned above, the flag shall be flown at half-staff at the place of the fun ...more

I only wish that afzal the terrorist who tried to bomb parliament had been successful. we would have been rid of most of the vermin sitting in the parliament in one shot. when the govt has not cared to tackled terrorism sternly then where is the point to expect them to show consideration for lives lost by flying the flag at half mast
