Crime against WOMEN:
The prime reason behind this, no doubt is the low esteem that our society has for women. The second reason I guess is, sexual deprivation and consequent frustration in the society. Will it not help if prostitution etc are made legal? Ur view pls

Low esteem is the main reason and should be the prime thought to understand and taugh to the masses. We have had a very high esteem for women which is proved from the Durga Pooja festival which we celebrate through the country and Raksha Bandhan festival in which any girl or woman can make a man her brother though not born of the same womb.
The significance woman has deteriorated also because of lack of education and a well designed syllabus emphasizing the respectful disposition to wards women in general, infusing patriotism, honesty to the job one does to mitigate the incidence of corrupt practice by every official in all jobs.
In a nutshell the moral education has to be given importance in the education system which is lacking tales of examples.
The second reason is also dreadening and is caused due to the governmental policy of retrenching the employees from govt. jobs, abolishing many posts, non creation of new opportunities, appointing on ad hoc basis for not mor ...more

One more reason I can think of is- poor man to woman ratio.
