The DELF examination - Diplme d'Etudes en Langue Franaise - is the first diploma in French as a foreign language with international acceptability issued by the French Ministry of Education. From 1st of September 2005 onwards, the DELF certificate has been harmonised with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages from the Council of Europe. The DELF A1 diploma has a life validity and it is worldwide recognized. The organisation of this diploma is a joint venture between the Cultural Section of the French Embassy in India and General Delegation of the Alliance Franaise de Paris in India. The CIEP in Svres, France is the centre for educational and administrative management of this diploma.
