Although lying is never really right, sometimes it is the best option, such as when it is done to spare someone's feelings. Lying to spare someone's feelings or to make them feel better is sometimes the right thing to do. Lying in order to get to the truth is also sometimes necessary. Telling a lie should always be a last resort, and done with as much tact as possible.
